Coronado Bridge turns 40
The San Diego-Coronado Bridge turns 40 years old Monday.
Since its debut in 1969, the 2.1-mile blue bridge with the 90-degree curve has been paid off by $1 tolls. The bridge was paid off in 1986 but tolls continued to be collected until 2002 because residents feared eliminating them would increase traffic.
