Comic-Con Friday: Eight great can’t-miss panels and previews
Friday, July 9, 2010
Comic-Con’s program is rolling out online and it’s overwhelming to say the least. How do attendees navigate it all? With our help, of course.

We’re assembling a day-by-day guide; eight great panels and previews each day (Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday).
By next week, we’ll have a full, four-day guide with 32 can’t-miss panels – or, can’t-miss in our opinion, but you’re free to add your can’t-miss panels/previews in the comments below.
It’s difficult to select eight from the extensive lists, so we’ll sneak in a ninth here: From 10-11 a.m. Friday in Room 4, DC will host its second talent search (the first is Thursday morning). DC’s editorial art director Mark Chiarello presents an informative orientation session that will explain how DC’s Talent Search works and discuss the different needs of DC Universe, Vertigo, WildStorm and MAD magazine publications. If you want to learn what DC Comics looks for in artists and how to improve your chances of becoming a working professional, this is the panel for you. To have your work reviewed, attendance at this orientation session is mandatory, but not all attendees are guaranteed one-on-one reviews.
Now, on to Friday’s schedule.
10:00-11:00 From Fan to Creator: Goal Setting for Creative Types— Which side of the convention table do you want to be on, artist or fan? And what’s keeping you from getting there? If you have a project in mind that you’ve had trouble bringing into reality, you might benefit from this fun and practical goal-setting workshop, designed specifically for the Comic-Con crowd. Hailed as the “Tony Robbins of Geeks,” motivational speaker Douglas Neff will give you simple, proven techniques for achieving your most important goals. Whether you want to write your own screenplay, draw your first comic, or shoot your independent film, you’re sure to get something useful from this informative and energizing workshop. Room 24ABC

Just more free advertising for Comi-Con masquarading as news. How much funding from its profits does Comi-Con plan to contribute to the cost of another convention center expansion? Why should San Diego taxpayers keep subsidizing
the convention center corp and Comi-Con, if it’s such a big success? Why can’t SDNN “reporters” dig a bit deeper, intead of just printing the press releases they get?
