Otay Mesa worker crushed by heavy load
A worker at an Otay Mesa lumber storage yard was killed Thursday when several 20-foot boards fell off a truck and knocked him to the ground, authorities reported.
The 54-year-old man was helping unload the planks at the lot in the 9900 block of Marconi Drive when the accident occurred shortly before 9:30 a.m., according to police and the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.
The worker, whose name was withheld pending notification of his family, fell backward and hit his head on the ground, SDFRD spokesman Maurice Luque said.
He died at the scene.
