Authorities Wednesday released the name of a 40-year-old woman fatally injured when she crashed a mo-ped into two vehicles and a palm tree in Escondido.

Deena Mary Davis of Escondido died at Palomar Medical Center shortly after 6 p.m. Tuesday, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Roughly a half-hour earlier, Davis was driving a mo-ped northbound on Auto Parkway when she drifted to the right for unknown reasons and struck the rear of a vehicle stopped at a stop sign at Don Lee Place, said Escondido police Lt. Chris Wynn.

The mo-ped then collided with the front end of a second vehicle before hitting a palm tree, Wynn said.
Paramedics took Davis to the hospital, where she died at 6:04 p.m., the Medical Examiner’s Office reported. No one else was hurt, according to Wynn.

The cause of the accident was not immediately determined.
