Sure, it’s cliche. But this holiday season, there’s a lot to be thankful for. Whether it’s your health, your family, your friends, or the fact that, in this economy, you actually have a job, a time of reflection is very necessary as we get entrenched in the hustle and bustle of our every day lives. We at SDNN are no different. Here’s a look at what we are thankful for:

Chris Jennewein, SDNN President
I’m thankful for my twin daughters, Maddy and Penny, who turn 18 early next month and will graduate from high school next year. The teenage years are a challenging time for many, but my daughters have successfully made it to adulthood.

I’m thankful that the press can renew itself with energy and passion. Newspapers may be dying, but the press lives on at San Diego News Network and dozens of other Internet startups across the United States.

Barbara Bry, SDNN executive editor
I’m thankful to have a wonderful extended and diverse family and to be part of an amazing team that is creating the news room of the future.

Robin Ruhwedel, SDNN Operations & Advertising
I’m thankful that my kids have grown into the responsible, caring adults I’ve always prayed they’d become.  And, I’m thankful for their roommates.  Because of them, my kids appreciate a clean house when they come home.

Arthur Salm, SDNN columnist
I’m thankful that I have so many things to be thankful for that it’d be foolish to be thankful for just these things or that state of affairs or those people. My family, say, or my friends, or my dog, or my cats, or my cross-court backhand slice, which has improved considerably since last Thanksgiving.

William Yelles, SDNN managing editor
I’m thankful my team is still alive in my fantasy football league and the Chargers are in first place in real football.

Jennifer Reed, SDNN Food and Health editor
I’m truly thankful for my job. I love it here! Also, Glee: Season 1.

Marsha Sutton, SDNN Education editor
I am thankful for my dog who loves me no matter how many columns I write that make people angry.

Valerie Scher, SDNN Arts & Entertainment editor
I am thankful for conductor Arturo Toscanini’s 1936 recording of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7 and for every other example of arts and entertainment that enriches our lives.

I’m thankful that the Chargers continue to provide a bevy of headlines on and off the field.

Jeff Creps, SDNN intern
I am thankful having family and friends to visit during the holidays.

David Elliott, SDNN film critic / movie reviewer
Along with being grateful that my family is healthy, I am grateful that we got the “2012″ disaster nonsense over with, so we don’t have to worry about it in 2012. Anyone who writes a sequel should be blown up, immediately.

Steven Bartholow, SDNN Multimedia editor
I am thankful for there always being another story around the bend.

Maryann Castronovo, SDNN columnist
I’m so thankful to be a part of this amazing group.

Alexandra Hart, SDNN Visitors Guide editor
I am thankful for the dedication and determination demonstrated by all City of San Diego Park and Recreation employees despite the constant threat of budget cuts.

Julie Gelfat, SDNN Visitors Guide editor
I am thankful for all of those who give of themselves, however they can, to offer kindness to help someone in need, to bring a smile to the face of someone struggling to get through the day or who simply reach out to someone they do not know. These are the people who, because of their humanity, can and do  change the world.

Hoa Quach, SDNN Politics editor
I’m thankful for all the amazing people in my life who keep my world spinnin’ — from the children in the Rolling Readers programs to the SDSU students who have continued the effort in New Orleans to my crazy Chinese family. Also, thankful for these dope ass stilettos I got at Nordstom’s for 40 percent off last week.

Karolen Linderman, SDNN advertising rep (and self-appointed Empress of the Universe)
I am thankful for all of the amazing people in my life — kids, grandkids, siblings, dear friends, co-workers, mentors and magicians.  And I’m grateful that I truly know the secret to longevity — keep breathing and never run out of good wine!

Alison DaRosa, SDNN Travel editor
I’m thankful that I live here; San Diego is a great place to come home to.

Joseph Peña, SDNN Lifestyles editor
I’m thankful for a number of things. Primarily, I’m blessed to have work; work I love. It can be a bit tiring to run from one job to the next, but I’m so grateful I have two jobs to juggle, and the good health to maintain both. Also, I’m thankful for the people I work with. San Diego News Network has a talented, enthusiastic roster of writers/editors, some whose names I recognize from years back, and who I’m lucky enough now to work alongside. I’m also thankful for the staff at Martinis Above Fourth, the restaurant I work in; they are my extended family, and an incredible support system. They do so much good work in the community, raising money and awareness for so many good causes. I’m so thankful to for all this, and of course my family and friends.

I bet you didn't expect to see Frank Zappa among the list of "thankful" items, huh?

I’m thankful for my daughter’s wild imagination, crème-filled donuts on Fridays, and a wonderful wife who is as crazy as I am.

Eric Yates, SDNN deputy managing editor
I’m thankful for incredible friends and family, for four-point plays, pocket aces, hearty soups, San Diego summers that last till November, the love of my maker, and that “Modern Family” has restored my faith in the sitcom once again.

Neil Senturia, SDNN CEO
I am thankful for the team!

Simple and sweet, from the top of the pile.  But Neil’s absolutely right. We have an incredible team of talented people working for this company, and I feel honored and privileged to be a part of that team.

At SDNN, we are especially thankful for you, the readers, for coming along with us on this journey over the last eight months. It’s been a roller coaster ride — both exhilarating and exhausting, sometimes painful, often pleasurable, never dull, and overwhelmingly fun.

We thank you again, and hope that you’ll continue to let us serve you the best way we know how. Happy Thanksgiving!

Eric Yates is SDNN deputy managing editor.
