Two men were injured early Wednesday when their vehicle slammed into a tree in Sorrento Valley, sending the vehicle’s engine into another lane, where it was struck by a second vehicle, police said.

Speed was a factor in the crash, which occurred around 1:50 a.m. on Mira Mesa Boulevard, near Scranton Road, according to San Diego police Officer Dino Delimitros.

The driver suffered a broken femur and his passenger complained of pain, Delimitros said. No one in the second vehicle was hurt.
