Victim of Escondido shooting identified
The victim of a fatal shooting in Escondido was identified Wednesday as a 23-year-old local man. Jesus Enrique Torres was shot in the abdomen around 8:45 p.m. Monday outside a residence in central Escondido and died about an hour later at Palomar Medical Center, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Escondido police Lt. Bob Benton said residents in the area of Wilson Place and Buchanan Street called to report gunshots and found Torres on the sidewalk. He died without telling police what happened, he said. Torres, a longtime resident of East Grand Avenue, had no known links to gangs, Benton said.
The lieutenant urged anyone with information on the shooting to call Detective Don Tulimero at (760) 839-4776. Anonymous calls can also be made to the toll-free tip line of San Diego County Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477. A $1,000 reward is available for information that leads to an arrest, Benton said.
