Police Wednesday announced the arrest of a fourth suspect accused of taking part in the armed robbery of a 14-year-old boy on a high school campus during an athletic event.

Johnny Dean Stewart, 20, was taken into custody Tuesday and booked on suspicion of armed robbery, Lt. Dave Bond said. The victim was watching a Friday night water polo game at Helix High School, 7323 University Ave., when he went looking for a restroom around 8:35 p.m. and was confronted by four suspects in a dark area of the campus.

One of the suspects asked the boy if he had change for a $10 bill, pulled out a handgun, went through the victim’s pockets and took his cell phone and wallet, police said. The suspects then fled toward the student parking lot.

The victim was not injured. A 16-year-old suspect was arrested Saturday. The next day, Carl Jerome Coleman, 18, and a 17-year-old juvenile turned themselves in.

All of the suspects are La Mesa residents, according to Bond. He said all but Stewart are also believed responsible for a second robbery on Normal Avenue, a mostly residential road that runs east-west a couple blocks south of University Avenue.
