Freed sexual predator arrested for violation
A child molester and sexually violent predator who was placed back into the community in Jacumba last year was arrested today for allegedly violating the terms and conditions of his release.
David Chambless, 49, was taken into custody at his residence for allegedly having incidental verbal contact with a 17-year-old minor, possessing sexually stimulating material and having pepper spray, said Deputy District Attorney Phyllis Shess.
It is not alleged that Chambless committed any new crimes, the prosecutor said. She said Liberty Healthcare, which manages outpatient treatment programs for the state’s sexually violent predators, will file a petition Tuesday requesting revocation of Chambless’ outpatient status.
A judge will then set a date within 15 court days to determine whether Chambless will be returned to a state mental hospital for treatment, Shess said.
Chambless was committed as a sexually violent predator in 1998. He spent 16 years in prison for molesting two girls — ages 7 and 9 — in 1989, according to authorities. He was known to the family and had been babysitting one of the girls when she was assaulted.
Chambless was ordered into outpatient treatment on Dec. 19, 2007, and was placed in the home in Jacumba in June 2008.
