Passerby uses hay to put out I-215 fire in Menifee after crash
A Chevy Cavalier apparently had flipped Route 215 near Scott Road in Menifee at about 8:30 a.m. today, and the sedan caught fire.
A passerby on a Riverside County freeway tried an unusual way to put out a car fire — they smothered a burning sedan with hay, a California Highway Patrol officer said.
A Chevy Cavalier apparently had flipped Route 215 near Scott Road near Menifee at about 8:30 a.m. today, and the sedan caught fire.
An arriving officer told dispatchers “someone tried to put it out by piling hay” on it, the CHP reported. The flames were extinguished, but the hay smoldered for a short time.
At least one other vehicle, an SUV, was overturned as a result of the crash, a CHP dispatcher reported.
An ambulance was sent to the scene, but the extent of the injuries inflicted in the crash is still unclear, according to a CHP dispatcher in Oceanside.
