Woman killed by pickup truck north of El Cajon
EL CAJON (CNS) - A 35-year-old woman walking on a street was struck and killed by a pickup truck that went off a roadway, hit her, and then crashed into a house, authorities said Sunday.
The crash occurred around 9:20 p.m. Saturday in the 1200 block of Pepper Drive in an unincorporated area north of El Cajon, according to the California Highway Patrol. The pickup, driven by 51-year-old Deborah Felix, was eastbound when it went off the right side of the roadway, said CHP Officer Brian Pennings.
“It continued on and collided with several mail boxes, a parked pickup truck, a fence, crossed two front yards and hit (the house at) 1249 Pepper Drive,” Pennings said. He said several neighbors heard the crash and ran outside.
“They saw Ms. Felix in the seat of her car and saw her start to run from the scene,” Pennings said. “They caught up to her and detained her.”
Pennings said she was taken to a hospital and arrested on suspicion of felony drunken driving. She’ll also face a vehicular manslaughter charge.
The injured woman was rushed to Sharp Memorial Hospital, where she was pronounced dead shortly before midnight, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office. Her name was not released, pending notification of family.
