Hemet man arrested after purse snatching
The robbery took place at 1:10 p.m. Friday in the parking lot of a Union Bank at 800 E. Florida Avenue in Hemet.
A Hemet man snatched a woman’s cash in a bank parking lot, but was nabbed thanks to an eyewitness who got the license plate number, police said today.
The robbery took place at 1:10 p.m. Friday in the parking lot of a Union Bank at 800 E. Florida Avenue in Hemet, said Hemet police Sgt. Mark Nipp.
The victim told police she had finished banking inside and was on her way back to her car when a man grabbed her checkbook and $100 cash she was carrying, Nipp said.
The suspect then drove away in a silver Chevy pickup, Nipp said. An eyewitness called and reported the license plate number to police, he said.
Police located the truck several hours later on the 1200 block of South Sanderson Avenue.
Eugene Torrez, 25, of Hemet, was arrested on suspicion of felony theft and possession of stolen property. He posted bail in the amount of $25,000 and is no longer in custody, Nipp said.
