United Airlines is giving customers the option of paying a $249 baggage fee that will cover a year’s worth of checked bags for yourself and up to eight companions traveling under the same confirmation number.
Each traveler would be entitled to check up to two standard bags without additional fees.
The program, dubbed Premier Baggage, applies to all United and United Express flights - including international flights.
For domestic and Canada flights, United charges $20 for the first checked bag and $30 for the second. There’s a $5 discount if you pay at the airline’s Web site.
Starting Dec. 15, United will charge $50 to check a second bag on international flights ($45 if customers pay online to check the bag).
