Teamless in San Diego: Hoops Headquarters

Nov 2 –

A week into the NBA season, and we already know a few things:

That Carmelo guy is decent
Nuggets superstar Carmelo Anthony has scored 113 points in only three games. More impressively, he has scored 113 points in 116 minutes played. That’s efficiency, kids. Melo leads the league in scoring (37.3) by six-and-a-half full points over Kobe Bryant. He’ll have a dropoff, but he’s already the early season MVP, after leading the Nuggs to a 3-0 record. Who need J.R. Smith?

Boston is Back
Or should I say, Kevin Garnett is back. KG has taken his team by the scruff of the neck and turned them back into the defensive juggernaut that they were in winning the NBA title in 2008. Boston is among the league leaders in FG% defense, and have held each of their opponents to 90 points or less in starting 4-0.

Manu Ginobili: Clutch shooter, fearless penetrator, part-time exterminator
OK, so maybe not, but if you haven’t seen this video, you’ve gotta check it out.

On Saturday, Halloween of course, a bat got loose in the AT&T Center in San Antonio and continually disrupted the game between the Spurs and Kings. Officials stopped the game on two occasions and the Spurs mascot even mockingly came out with a net trying to catch it.

After the third game interruption, Spurs guard Manu Ginobili had had enough. As the bat flew near him, he squared up and swatted it out of mid-air, as the crowd erupted!  Ginobili scooped up the injured bat and walked it off the floor, getting a quick splash of hand sanitizer.

He has since received a rabies vaccine shot. No word on if PETA is sending their best “bat guy” to investigate.

Play of the Day
Courtesy of San Diego’s own Chase Budinger. In having his best game as a pro, the rookie forward dropped 17 points, had 5 rebounds, 2 assists and a steal in only 21 minutes Monday night. His nifty reverse layup also showed his freakish athletic ability. Good on ya, Chase!
