East County cities announce new fire chief
The cities of El Cajon, La Mesa and Lemon Grove Thursday announced the appointment of a fire chief to oversee operations of a joint agency created by a merger of the three municipalities’ fire-rescue departments.
Mike Scott, who’s been chief of the El Cajon Fire Department since June 2005, will head the new command upon its Jan. 1 inception, ECFD spokeswoman Monica Zech said.
Last month, the three cities approved a joint-powers agreement creating a single management team in charge of the day-to-day operations of the three public-safety agencies. El Cajon City Manager Kathi Henry praised Scott as “a capable leader with a proven track record.”
“There is no doubt that he has the skills necessary to take us in a positive direction,” she said.
Scott began his career with the El Cajon Fire Department in 1984 as a firefighter-paramedic.
In addition to his current leadership post, he chairs the Board of Chiefs for the Heartland Training Facility Authority and the Heartland Communications Authority and is coordinator for Heartland Fire District Zone 4.
