With an ailing and struggling defensive line and a key Monday Night matchup with Denver fast-approaching, the Chargers signed free agent defensive tackle Ian Scott on Wednesday.

The Chargers cut Clinton Hart, left, a starter since 2007 to make room for DT Ian Scott.
The five-year veteran has 95 tackles and two sacks in a career spent mostly with the Chicago Bears. He was a member of the Chargers roster for four games in 2008 but saw limited action.
To make room for Scott, San Diego cut Clinton Hart, who has started 33 games at safety since 2007. He has 16 tackles in four games for a unit that ranks 12th against the pass and has come under a great deal of criticism.
Scott was with the Chargers through the offseason and cut at the conclusion of training camp. He isn’t likely to see a lot of action, but provides another body for a thin unit that is ranked 27th in the league against the run, suffering from a season-ending injury to Jamal Williams and lingering problems with defensive end Travis Johnson.
