SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 29-year-old man was fatally shot as he crossed a
street in Logan Heights with two friends, police said Saturday.

Marquis A. Austin was with two friends, walking west across the 2100
block of Everett Avenue about 11 p.m. Friday when a gunman confronted them and
fired a single, deadly shot, San Diego police Capt. Terry McManus said.

Medics were unable to save Austin, who died on the side of the road,
police said.

Detectives questioned Austin’s friends about what happened, but the
motive for the shooting was unclear, McManus said.

The gunman, last seen running north on 28th Street from Everett Avenue
in dark clothing, was described as black, about 5 feet 8 inches, with a
“military style” haircut, McManus said.

Anyone with more information about the slaying was asked to call Crime
Stoppers at (888) 580-8477 or homicide detectives at (619) 531-2293.
