Saldaña throws hat in County Supervisor ring
State Assemblymember Lori Saldaña (D-San Diego) announced on Wednesday that she will run for County Supervisor Ron Roberts’ seat.
She made the announcement at an event put on by Run Women Run, an organization that supports pro-choice women who run for politics.
“I’ve been giving it some thought for quite some time,” Saldana said. “I decided there would be no better place to make the announcement than in a room full of women.”
Saldana, who has been an assemblymember since 2004, said she didn’t see this as a step down from her current position representing the 76th district in the State Assembly.
“I’m representing 450,000 constituents right now,” Saldana said. “If I were to gain this position (District 4), I would be representing 600,000 constituents.”
She also noted that her legislative experience would be an advantage that no prior county supervisor has taken to the local office.
The seat has long been Republican on a board that has also been Republican for years. She said she isn’t distressed about the idea, as it is a non-partisan race and the number of independent voters is rising.
Roberts is currently serving his fourth term in office. He previously ran for the mayoral position to no avail.

Here is another politican going from one political office to another. She and here fellow state legislators did such a good job in bringing the state to near bankruptcy that she now wants to do the same with our County. She is also a proponent of illegal aliens getting amnesty. She will say a lot of things while running (as most candidates do) but the fact is she will bring us to our knees.
Also the article in sdnn makes a point that all the county board of supervisors are from the GOP. I wonder is SDNN showing it’s liberal bias? And so what the County is pretty good economic shape so who cares what party the Supervisors are from as long as they do a good job. Now Saldana with her State budget compromise is taking money away from the County and Cities of San Diego. She should be put into the private sector and see how she does there for a few years before she runs for political office again.

Assemblymember Lori Saldana has proven herself to be courageous, compassionate, intelligent, and would make a fine County Supervisor, and I would not be surprised if she walked & knocked on doors all over the district, again, to meet voters in person and gain their support.
Best of luck Assemblymember Saldana.

I still remember when Candidate Lori Saldana walked her district to meet the citizens she would come to represent. She never stopped working for us and I’m confident she will be a dedicated Board of Supervisor’s repesentative of all of those living in District 4.
We are with you Lori.

I’m with the earlier commenter, she has my vote unless Donna Frye jumps in. Donna deserves this seat after her incredible and courageous years at City Hall fighting the status quo. Donna is a one-of-a-kind elected official who has unparalleled guts and integrity.

As one of those “independent” (decline to state) voters that has doubts about both major parties, I think it’s a bit disingenious of Howard to blame only Dems for the budget mess in Sacramento, when a Republican Governor has been the Chief Executive (or am I missing something?), and 8-years of a Republican President ran our economy into the ground… If the economy were booming again, we’d have no budget “mess” - so maybe it’s time for some new leadership at the County level that can also help us get our fair share from the State Legislature when things turn around.
For those that confuse efforts to acknowledge and come up with better ways to handle illegal immigration with “amnesty” - pleeeeeease. Ignoring what’s going on at the borders as most leadership have done for years hasn’t worked - at least Lori’s taken the time to learn what’s going on. Besides, I didn’t realize the Feds were kicking this responsibility down to the State or the County (i.e.: if you’re going to throw out this red herring, focus on your Congressperson).
From a freshman Assemblymember to a top-level leader in Sacramento in only a few years? Lori must be doing something right to generate that kind of confidence! Go Lori!

Great, would be even better if she could replace Jacobs.
