A 61-foot wooden sailboat that was taking on water about 180 miles southwest of San Diego was back underway today after repairs were made by a Navy crew, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.

A man and two 13-year-old boys aboard the Nordic White called for help, reporting the vessel taking on water for an unknown reason about 7 p.m. Saturday, Nicola Lesourd of the Coast Guard said.

A helicopter was dispatched but was unable to lower a pump, because of the sailboat’s rigging. The nearby U.S. Navy frigate USS McClusky was sent to help, Lesourd said.

A Navy damage-control team pumped out the boat and plugged a leaking through-hull fitting, he said. The boat was making its way to San Diego on its own, Lesourd said.
