Adam Lambert: Timeline reveals life in fast lane

Are you ready, Glamberts?

“American Idol” runner-up Adam Lambert is coming home Saturday. The 27-year-old musician who grew up in San Diego will perform along with the rest of the top 10 finalists in a concert at the San Diego Sports Arena.

San Diego is just one of the many stops for the Season 8 finalists. The “American Idol” 2009 Summer Tour kicked off in Portland, Ore. on July 5, and will run through the summer, culminating on Sept. 15, in Manchester, N.H.

Lambert’s last publicized San Diego appearance was in May, when the top three “Idol” contestants visited their hometowns. Lambert stopped by local radio and television stations. He visited MET2, the Metropolitan Educational Theatre where he developed his performance skills. He also performed at his alma mater, Mt. Carmel High School, where Mayor Jerry Sanders declared “Adam Lambert Day.”

Since his last visit, Lambert has been on a nonstop media, marketing and music frenzy. Besides preparing for and performing in the tour, Lambert has made a variety of TV appearances, released music, signed a record deal and worked on new material for his official debut album.

Here are some of the highlights from Lambert’s fast-paced last few months — and a look at what’s to come.

Timeline

May 8: San Diego welcomes home Lambert, then a top three “Idol” finalist.

May 20: The winner of “American Idol” is announced during the Season 8 finale. Kris Allen, a then-23-year-old singer-songwriter from Arkansas, defeats Lambert.

May 21: Lambert’s version of the song “No Boundaries” is made available for download on iTunes.

May 22: Lambert and his fellow “Idol” cast-mates appear on CNN’s “Larry King Live.”

June 9: Lambert is signed to 19 Recordings and licensed to RCA Records.

June 11: Lambert posts his first tweet on his confirmed Twitter account.

June 12: The “Rolling Stone” issue featuring Lambert hits newsstands. In the cover story interview, he acknowledges that he is gay.

June 12: Lambert appears on ABC’s “20/20.”

June 19: Hi Fi Recordings and Wilshire Records announce that they will be releasing “On With the Show,” a compilation of songs Lambert had recorded prior to “American Idol.” The first single, “Want,” is released.

June 19: Lambert makes an official statement regarding the release of his old recordings. He explains that his musical style has changed from the work he did in the past: “Back in 2005 when I was a struggling artist, I was hired as a studio singer to lend my vocals to tracks written by someone else. I was broke at the time and this was my chance to make a few bucks, so I jumped at the opportunity to record for my first time in a professional studio. The work I did back then in no way reflects the music I am currently in the studio working on.”

June 30: “‘American Idol’ Season 8″ compilation album is released.

July 5: “American Idol” 2009 Summer Tour kicks off in Portland, Ore.

July 8: Lambert discovers just how enthusiastic his female fans can be when underwear is thrown on stage during the Vancouver concert.

July 18: “Idol” tour comes to the San Diego Sports Arena.

Looking ahead…

Aug. 7: Lambert performs on ABC’s “Good Morning America.”

Aug. 10: “Teen Choice Awards” airs on FOX. Lambert is nominated for two awards.

Sept. 15: “Idol” tour ends in Manchester, N.H.

Fall 2009: Lambert’s official debut album is expected to be released.
