Recent and upcoming NAVFAC Southwest construction projects

Camp Pendleton

— Hospital replacement project, estimated cost $563 million. The construction contract is expected to be awarded September 2010, for estimated completion date November 2013.

— Photovoltaic system, estimated cost $10.7 million. The contract is expected to be awarded in December, with project to be completed December 2010.

— Photovoltaic system, estimated cost $1.9 million. Contract to be awarded in September, for completion October 2010.

— Troop housing, repair bachelor quarters, estimated cost $8.9 million. Contract to be awarded April 2009, for completion November 2010.

Naval Base Coronado

— Photovoltaic system, estimated cost $1.9 million. Contract to be awarded in September, for completion October 2010.

— Troop housing, repair bachelor quarters, estimated cost $86 million. Contract to be awarded September 2009, for completion October 2011.

Recent NAVFAC Southwest contracts

The Naval Facilities Engineering Command Southwest recently awarded contracts to the following contractor companies:

— T B Penick & Sons, $7 million to expand the Child Development Center at the Naval Air Station in Lemoore, CA. The center will accomodate 72 children, with completion expected by mid-2010.

— Stronghold Engineering, $459,100 for IT upgrades at the Navy Medical Center San Diego. The contract started June 3.

— Barnhart, Inc, $7 million for commercial building renovations at the Marine Corps Base at Camp Pendleton.

— URS Corporation, headquartered in San Francisco, to do an environmental impact report for a naval hospital at the Marine Corps Base in Camp Pendleton.

About the hospital

Existing hospital: Built 1974

New building size: 500,000 square feet.

New building construction start date: October 2010

Completion date: November 2013, operational in 2014

Primary patients:

— Marines, sailors, retired service members

— Military families, such as wives and children

— Wounded soldiers, particularly those returning from Iraq and Afghanistan

Facilities:

— expanded facilities for mental health, brain injured and post-traumatic stress patients

— more physical rehabilitation facilities

— more outpatient services

Staff:

— 1100

Building:

— earthquake ready

— complies with state and federal requirements
