Grossest fair food? Chocolate-covered bacon
I hold these truths to be self-evident:
1) Chocolate cures all.
2) Anything goes with chocolate.
Anything that is, except for bacon.
For every maxim, there is at least one exception, and I’ve found it. Chocolate is disgusting with bacon, and that’s a fact.
The San Diego County Fair brings us all kinds of colorful food combinations, but this one is a must-don’t. When I put a bite in my mouth, my stomach immediately revolted, knowing it wasn’t meant to process the two food groups together. Think of a chewy, fat-flavored licorice with the teasing temptation of chocolate; then take away everything delightful about chocolate and replace it with bacon.
We searched high and low for the single grossest food item at fair. And, besides chocolate-covered bacon, we found a couple close runners-up.
Fried Frog Legs
First of all, who wants to eat frog? This menu item at Totally Fried actually looked somewhat appealing and it smelled good too. It didn’t seem completely nauseating to me because I’m from Houston (which is semi-Cajun.) They pretty much fry everything that moves from craw daddies to alligators, so I’m accustomed to the concept of fried amphibian.
Several food patrons told us it tasted like chicken. We found people up and down the food corridor enjoying it, so, it can’t be all bad. I only wonder why, if given the choice between a delicious funnel cake and fried frog legs, someone would willingly choose the latter.

Krispy Kreme Chicken Sandwiches
This is a chicken patty sandwiched between two strawberry-filled donuts. Again, why? I guess if you need a little strawberry syrup with your fried chicken, then this would be your scrumptious lunch.
We found one girl that absolutely loved it. She ate the whole thing, licking her fingers and lips along the way. Some people say it’s their favorite food item at the fair.
I was hoping to say I tried something new and it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. But, chocolate-covered bacon is bad. It’s not a lethal combination, but I’ll take my chocolate with peanut butter and almonds from now on, thanks.

Actually, bacon and chocolate is great!
Only when the bacon is crispy though.

I love food and am open minded - I tried the chocolate covered bacon and it was terrible! I’ll take an avocado shake instead anytime.
