Nasrin Barbee is new Sunrise Rotary president

The Rancho Bernardo Sunrise Rotary Club has elected Nasrin Barbee as club president for the Rotary year beginning July 1. She has been a Poway-based architect since 1989, with a focus on residential, custom homes, remodeling, home additions, and redevelopment of Montessori Schools.

A graduate of UCLA’s School of Fine Arts, Barbee is a registered Architect with the State of California with more than 25 years of professional experience. Having earned her Masters in Architecture from the UCLA School of Architecture, she is very active in industry and community affairs. She has been a member of the American institute of Architects since 1984.

Affectionately known by the club’s 65 professional members as “Naz”, Ms. Barbee is to many the very embodiment of Rotary’s multi-gender, multi-national determination to provide service above self. She’s been active in Rotary since 1994, has spent the past several years as chair of both the International and Community Service committees, and was awarded Rotary International’s Four Ways Of Service award in 2006.

Nasrin Barbee also was widely recognized for her collaboration in 2007-08 with her Daughter Cindy in the Peace Corps, helping to provide sewing machines to a village in Nicaragua. Because of their efforts, the women of this remote village have since started a cooperative and largely moved the members of their community from poverty to self-sufficiency.

During her upcoming year, Nasrin expects to emphasize expanding local community “reach-out” programs. ‘There are many programs that need our help, both in our own backyard and beyond our borders’ she says, ‘And RB Sunrise Rotary never shies away from helping those most in need wherever they may be. We’ll start by looking in north county for hands-on projects that our membership is uniquely suited to helping, then look outwards from there.’

Nasrin and her husband Ralph are soon headed for the 100^th Rotary International Convention, being held in Birmingham, England from June 21-24. Taking to heart the theme for the upcoming year (”The future of Rotary is in your hands”), Nasrin is just itching to get back and apply her many years of preparing to lead the Rancho Bernardo Sunrise Rotary Club.

Nasrin and the other 64 professionals of the RB Sunrise Rotary meet at 7:15 every Tuesday morning at the Country Club of Rancho Bernardo, 12280 Greens East Road ^[2], San Diego, CA 92128. Members of the public are invited to attend these meetings.
