Moonlight’s next stage: Amphitheatre expands
Vista's Moonlight Amphitheatre gets some new digs.
Moonlight Stage Productions is entering a new stage in its 29-year development, with a series of additions to its Brengle Terrace Park location for outdoor summer musicals. The $13.9 million construction project, funded by the people and City of Vista, is nearing completion, on budget and on schedule, just in time for the gala dedication/celebration on June 27.
SDNN theater critic Pat Launer took a hard-hat tour of the construction site with Moonlight founder/artistic director Kathy Brombacher.
WHERE: Brengle Terrace Park, 1200 Vale Terrace Drive, Vista
TICKETS: $50
•There will also be a free, all-day 4th of July celebration at the newly improved Moonlight Amphitheatre, culminating in evening fireworks.
•Tickets for Moonlight’s full summer season of outdoor musicals, which includes “42nd Street,” “Phantom: The American Musical Sensation” and “Cats,” can be purchased at (760)724-2110 or www.vistixonline.com
The 12,000 square-foot addition includes an enclosed stagehouse, state-of-the-art lighting, sound and video capabilities, a 60-foot high fly loft with electronic rigging for scenery and equipment, extensive backstage facility expansion/upgrade, a scene assembly/workshop, an orchestra pit, and improved ADA accessibility.
The Moonlight Amphitheatre was originally constructed in 1975 by the Vista Foundation (now the Moonlight Cultural Foundation), as part of a bicentennial project. Initially, the facility included a small concrete stage and a terraced seating area. Summer theatre productions began in 1981, and have continued ever since.
Pat Launer is the SDNN theater critic.
