RB Noon Rotary awards $1,000 to Interfaith Community Services

The need is up 70% in 2009, according to Interfaith's Executive Director

The RB Noon Rotary Club has presented a grant for $1,000 to Suzanne Pohlman, Executive Director of Interfaith Community Services (Interfaith).

‘With more than 7,500 homeless people in San Diego, it is incumbent upon each and every one of us to find ways to help those most in need.’ said club president-elect Barbara Baldwin as she announced the contribution.

Ms. Pohlman provided an overview of what society is up against when combating homelessness. ‘Homelessness does not exist in isolation. It is always linked to hunger, employment issues, inadequate parenting skills, and a host of other problems, like illness, illiteracy, and hopelessness. Interfaith Community Services exists to address those problems and meet these needs.’

According to Ms. Pohlman, Interfaith served 28,000 people in 2008. ‘The need for Interfaith is up 70% so far in 2009, mostly due to the economy,’ she added.

The donation received from Rotary will be applied to Interfaith’s “Make it a Home” project.

Information about Interfaith Community Services can be found online at http://www.interfaithservices.org. The RB Rotary Club, which meets at noon on Thursdays at the Bernardo Heights Country Club, can be found online at www.rbrotary.org. Prospective members are always welcome.
