RB Sunrise Rotarian Supports Local Scouts, Nominated for Prestigious Scouting Award

Hetherington described as 'the very epitome' of scouting and service to the community.

With a $1,600 donation, the RB Sunrise Rotary club has continued its ongoing commitment to scouting in north county.
Members of the local service club were greeted by several Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts in uniform along with their adult leaders at a recent breakfast meeting. Rotary club member/scouting coordinator Jerry Hetherington presented the check, noting the important role that scouting plays towards the development of successful, contributing members of society at large.
“We’re proud to support Cub Scout Pack 627 and Boy Scout Troop 688.” said Hetherington, who noted; “The principles of leadership and service embodied by the Boy Scouts of America are right in line with Rotary’s own commitment to service above self.”
After 20 years of leading scouting programs, Hetherington’s dedication to the cause of helping others has also been recognized. Dr. Kendra Jeffcoat, club president, announced he has been nominated for the Cliff Dochterman Rotary Scouting Award, which honors Rotary’s service to scouting.
The Dochterman Award is awarded to active Rotarians who render exemplary service to scouting, and is named for Dr. Cliff Dochterman, past president of Rotary International. Dr. Dochterman has received three of the highest honors of the Boy Scouts of America; the Silver Beaver, Silver Antelope, and Distinguished Eagle awards. He was also presented the Silver Wheel award of the International Fellowship of Scouting Rotarians. “Jerry Hetherington is the very epitome of scouting, Rotary, and service to the community,” observed Dr. Jeffcoat when announcing his nomination for the prestigious international award. “Jerry is probably one of the most honorable people you’re likely to meet, and we are INCREDIBLY fortunate to have him as an active member of our club.”

A past president of the RB Sunrise Rotary club, Hetherington, in typical fashion, deflects such attention. “It’s all about helping the kids of today become better leaders for tomorrow.” he says.

Mr. Hetherington and the other 64 professionals of the RB Sunrise Rotary meet at 7:15 every Tuesday morning at the Country Club of Rancho Bernardo, 12280 Greens East Road, San Diego, CA 92128. Members of the public are invited to attend these meetings.
