PriceWaterHouseCooper’s Molloie: Investing in China
Having just returned from a three year stint serving the venture capital market in Shanghai, Bill Molloie — new head of PricewaterhouseCooper’s San Diego emerging life sciences practice — has a unique view of the venture capital market. Molloie, speaking to socalTECH.com from his offices in San Diego Wednesday, said that his experience in China made him realize how similar the market actually is to Southern California. “The reality is, there are more similarities than one would think” Molloie explained. Anaphore takes $13 million
La Jolla-based Anaphore, a developer of protein therapeutics, announced today that it has raised an additional $13M in the firm’s Series A preferred stock financing. According to the firm, the new funding brings the total round size to $38M. READ MORE
BakBone buys email software firm ColdSpark
San Diego-based BakBone Software has acquired email infrastructure provider ColdSpark, in a deal worth approximately $15.9M, the firm said Thursday. BakBone said it will pay $8.125M in cash plus 18,169,780 of the firm’s common stock over the next three years for ColdSpark. READ MORE
Sorenson Media jumps into Internet video hosting
San Diego-based Sorenson Media, a developer of video encoding and decoding software, said Monday that it has branched out into the Internet video services market with a new offering to allow customers to encode, upload, and publish their videos. READ MORE
BakBone names new director
San Diego-based BakBone Software, a developer of data backup software, disclosed this week that the firm has named Richard N. Frasch to the firm’s board of directors. According to the company, Frasch was appointed to the board by holders of its Series A preferred shares. Frasch was most recently at GlobiTech Holding Company, and also was at KLM Capital Group, among other experience.
